Modern economic development hinges primarily on industrial and technological development. A large number of theories of economic development have been propounded in the recent past. Different factors have been identified as determinants of growth in different growth models. According to some descriptive theories, of economic growth, a purely structural change will raise the level of per capita income when there is a shift from sectors of the national economy that requires more labor per unit of output to sectors that requires less of it, other things being equal.

I don't agree. That theory fails to account for the necessary growth in those types of industries that will accomodate the entire will workforce.

Secondly, labor intensive production tends to have a more rigorous economic multiplier that permeates gnp in a wider and deeper fashion. These factors cause larger faster gnp growth.
