We are a small company. Due to the needs of the business, we will have to stagger some employees work schedules, and some may have to stay until 7 PM. Some of the females are (understandably) concerned about walking alone to their car in the parking lot in the dark, and the parking lot will be mostly empty at that time. The building does not have security personnel.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how we can address and resolve their concerns?

Is this a multi-level garage, single level parking lot, or something else? In a past life we had this problem and had anyone concerned wait until there were several to walk together or have an escort (usually the biggest, meanest looking guy) walk with them.

It is just a plain old single level parking lot. That was my first thought too, but the only problem is there may not be another male available to escort.

Men get mugged too so waiting for a big burly man to escort the women in the face of danger may not be a good thing.

While perhaps not the best solution having all of the end of day workers wait and then walk to the parking lot together remains a good option.

You may also want to have some reserved spaces nearest the building for the people who will be working late that week.

Thanks everyone. I was also thinking of reserving the parking spots closest to the building.

Your local police department may have a community liaison that could suggest measures to improve safety (such as lighting in the parking lot) and/or could speak to your staff about personal safety (such as being aware of one's surroundings).
