Our company has decided to implement some goals for safety and loss prevention this year. We don't have a formal risk manager, etc. and we have decided not to pay a consulting free to our brokers to assist us. So, it's fallen on some folks in Human Resources and Facilities Management. I am looking for some good online resources for coming up witih safety goals for each of our locations, as well as a safety statement, and some metrics we should use. I am doing some research but could use some help.

Are you self insured or do you have a WC carrier? Most WC carriers have experts who'll be glad to help their employers with stuff like this for little or no charge.

We have a carrier but there is limited help "for free" which does not include the specifics we are looking for. Our contract under our parent company does not provide for the things we need to do. So I am leading a committee to do it on our own.

Here is a good resource from Osha - http://www.osha.gov/Publications/smallbusiness/small-business.html This would be a good place to start. Lots of options on metrics but OSHA recordable rate and lost time injury rate are pretty standard. Obviously annual WC cost is also a good one.
