There are so many sites for running criminal history record checks. Any suggestions - what to look for, what to avoid?

If you have an ATS then I wouold suggest working with your vendor and finding one that can link seamlessly with it. Saves time and paperwork that way, which equals dollars.
If not, or for some reason you don't care, I would suggest http://www.employeescreen.com/. Their President and COO is a good business friend of mine. I have used their product and it is pretty good and reliable. |

Heartily endorse HRPro's suggestion of integrating background checks with any ATS system you're using. Most will support one or more (ask if they're HR-XML compliant - that's the information exchange standard for the HRIS industry and service providers).
If you're not interested in ATS integration, then certainly shop around. Most will claim that they can turn around background checks in 36 hours or so, but ask some specifics like: 1. How long does it take to get a response for someone in King County, WA? (Unless this has changed recently, someone had to physically go to the courthouse in Seattle to get felony conviction records). 2. How long does it take to get a response from someone in Louisiana? (Again, unless this has changed in the last couple of years, conviction records in Louisiana weren't in a database. " Compooters? What be dose things? ") And, of course, check prices. |
