I'm currently a supervisor at a job in Southern California and used to supervise three employees, while my boss supervised six in a customer service environment. During a software implementation, which is never fun, my bosses employees where temporarily taken away due to the overwhemling issues with the software change on a temporary basis. Some six months later, my bosses boss made a permanent change to my both my job duties as well as my bosses. My bosses six employess were now going to be under a lead position and my employees were now going to report to my boss. My title has not changed but is there any legal issue with this?

Concerned in socal.

It appears you diodn't notice the statement that these forums are not for personal employment issues. That said, try posting your question at www.freeadvice.com.

I think you're asking the wrong question.

You shouldn't be so concerned about the legalities of this situation so much as you should be concerned about why your employees were moved.

Just as an aside, an employer is generally free to make job changes and responsibility changes at will.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
