Hello,

I am doing some research into what organizations offer for training and development. We currently have a training policy but would like to know if others have a set dollar amount per employee that they spend on training and development.

Thanks.

The ASTD reports this figure. If I remember correctly, it works out to about 3% of the employee's salary so as they go up in salary, the investment in the employee increases. Part of this increase is using more sophisticated learning formats(i.e. executive coaches versus classroom training).

Of course there is more expense up front. Orientations are expensive but only need to be done once. Developing new education is expensive at the beggining but the costs are usually reduced over time.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
