Without going into the details of why he quit or why we chose to hire him back, I'm checking to see if there is more I need to do to efficiently reinstate an employee who tendered his resignation within one month of hire date.
Basically all I've done is create a reinstatement doc, which is a general outline of the original ee agreement; it also includes a new hire date and when benefits will become effective.
Is there more I need to look out for? Do I need to redo all the paperwork as if he were a new ee?
Thank in advance for your guidance!

You need to check every benefit plan you have to see how "breaks in service" are calculated -- especially any pension/401k plans. You also need to see how eligibility is defined for your health/dental insurance plans. Each plan could easily have a different set of rules. You can NOT assume that he will be treated as a new hire -- well, you can, but there is a large chance you would be wrong.
If this person had any type of wage garnishment, it is possible that it might need to auto-restart. You would need to read each separately.
Those are two off the top of my head.

I agree about checking the benefits. Our company will allow someone who is gone 30 days or less to keep all seniority. We change them to a LOA during the time they were gone instead of a termination.

If you have a 401(k) with a loan provision this needs to be looked at.
If there was an FSA contribution coming out of the prior employment payslip, this needs to be looked at.
If there was any severance pay involved, some of it may need to be returned.
If you paid out earned vacation will you start from scratch now like a new employee?
You will to ensure that all wages for the year are added together so that there is only one w-2 and one accumulation towards social security limits. (and 401(k))

And let's not forget the accuracy of his I-9.

Daily Q&A
How to Address Flagging Motivation?
How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
