Have to agree that the distance/location is going to be the biggest hurdle and honestly I can't think of any team building activities that will overcome that. Because each and every day those employees will be grumpy about the longer drive...the days they stop to fill up their cars with gas, it will be worse.
Plus that adds on lots more time away from family and home each week to keep the same job/pay.
Unless the company is offering any kind of relocation $s, this will be a hard pill to swallow for pretty much all employees.
We've been lucky in all three moves that we have stayed centrally located in a big city. We did one move where one employee was about 45 miles away (and 20 from the original office so he normally drove 25)...and we worried that he would quit. He didn't, but could have easily.
I would be prepared to have a retention issue and it is possible depending on the differences in drive lengths that anyone quitting would be doing so under "good cause" and would be given unemployment benefits by your state. I know in TX, there is a distance factored into the equation and TX generally isn't as employee friendly as some other states.
