Hi,
I have been appointed as a team manager to supervise 03 line managers who are supervising a team of 100 BPO data entry operators.(9 hours per day 6 days per week shift)

Please explain what type of management style should I follow in order to manage my 03 subordinates.
Do I need to keep a performance profile for all 100 employees in my team?

Thanks

Off hand I would say to stay out of the weeds and on top of what's most important.

Provide direction and morale support for the 3 executives on your team, review enough performance metrics to keep them honest, keep your eyes and ears open, pay attention to what is going on with the 100 direct reports and counsel your executive team where needed, but don't get in the middle of conflict if you can avoid it, let them problem solve on their own. Praise in public and criticize in private, talk to them about how they can develop their staff, ask for their input, make sure they have everything they need to do the job well. Continue to be a good manager, but focus on being a good leader and helping them become better managers. Learn from them, you may have earned this position, but develop the humility to recognize that you don't know everything - this is the main reason smart leaders fail, they think they are right and those who serve them are afraid to tell them otherwise.

Most important, be honest and open with them and continue to develop your own management and leadership skills. Seek advice from leaders you respect.

Agree with Deltac but would also suggest that part of your answer should come from above....what management style does your management want you to have? What do they feel you are responsible for (versus passing along your 3 subordinate managers)? What are essential job tasks?

You don't want your style to go against company culture and policy. If managers at your level keep performance folders on all underlings, that is what you should do. Part of it will depend on how much management you turn over to the 3 subordinate managers.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
