Curious to know if anyone is communicating the payroll changes that will take place in the 1st payroll of this year? Since Congress declined to extend the "payroll tax holiday” economic stimulus, which in 2011 and 2012 lowered employees' share of the Social Security payroll tax from 6.2% to 4.2%. That means starting Jan. 1, employers must resume withholding at the 6.2% rate. I read that the 6.2% rate means employees earning $20,000 to $30,000 will pay an average of $406 more per year. Those with incomes of $50,000 to $75,000 will pay an average of $985 more, while those making $100,000 to $200,000 will pay an average of $1,991 more......do we want to be the one who wants to deliver the bads news up front or let them see it in the checks... |

By now, I'd hope that most employees would already know that this is going to kick in so for them it won't be a surprise. Regardless, I personally believe that it's better to communicate this to employees before the next payday - there will always be those 10% who "don't get the word" and I'd prefer to spare Payroll/HR the few angry and upset employees thinking the organization is taking away some of their pay. Surprises, especially for those few uninformed, are never good.

It is no wonder that fiscal cliff or as they call it a disastrous fiscal cliff is being discussed probably everywhere online. You can hardly find an ignorant to this issue person. I am definitely not one of them. Very well-done our government, employees can hardly pay what they have to now and now they would like to us to pay even more. Is this a bad joke? Unfortunately it is the awful truth. So what, are they pushing us to one of those payday loans online while we are doing everything possible and impossible to stay away from getting even more debts than we have today. I can't believe this country used to be so powerful. I guess it was powerful only once...when Clinton was our president. |
