Dear HR professionals,

My name is Melissa and I am currently pursuing my associates of business degree with a minor of HR management at Baker College. The reason for my post is to request any informational website that can help me with my HR studies. I'm asking for free website.
Thank you,

Melissa

Some basic sites:
DOL.gov, especially information on FLSA, FMLA
EEOC.gov, especially information under Employers
Your state's department of Labor site -- usually has state laws that interact with federal laws
www.benefitslink.com has lots of information about benefits
http://www.payroll-taxes.com/articles.htm -- same great articles on payroll processing issues

Some forums such as this:
www.laborlawtalk.com (where HR professionals answer questions for free from employees with issues).

hr.blr.com

I am sure there are others...but those are probably the ones I frequent the most

www.shrm.org You can get a student membership to SHRM for $35 for the year.  The site is an extremely valuable resource.

And on the benefits side I use www.ifebp.org.

Some additional sites :

HRHero.com, BLR.com - you can sign up for free newsletters, your state Chamber of Commerce may also provide some free newsletters relating to employment/HR.

I would also check out any local SHRM chapters - usually have a student chapter with access to mentors & internships.

Best of luck with your studies!

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
