What are other manufacturing organizations doing in terms of return to work policies?

Our organization is getting managers that do not want employees back until they are 100%.  Do you have any sample processes to follow when returning an employee back to work after a non work related illness or injury.  Thank you for your response in advance.

I recommend that you require employees to provide you with a statement from a physician that attests to the person's ability to perform the job.  

Keep in mind that some states do prohibit discrimination based on medical condition, so you need to tread carefully. There are also ADA considerations - you are required to provide a reasonable accomodation for qualifying illnesses/medical conditions if such an accomodation exists.  Also note that some illnesses, such as cancer or AIDS, can be considered disabilities under ADA.
