Lateral Moves
Discuss employment-law issues such as family leave, overtime, disabilities law, harassment, immigration and termination.
Can a lateral move be positive or negative? If it is based on negative results how can an employer help the individual make the move a positive one so that they can see the benifits of the move.

You can make the move "positive" by taking the following steps:
1. Make sure that you have fully explained, in writing, what the negative issues are how you are expected them to be corrected going forward.
2. Explain why, despite the earlier issues, you believe the person can be successfull in the new assignment.
3. Put forth, in writing, what success looks like in the new position.
4. Explain why this second chance at success will allow for a fresh start once all the above items are understood and worked through.

Focus on new challenges and opportunities that come with the new position. Everyone wants to be challenged to be engaged at their job while everyone also looks for new opportunities that they didn't have before.
