I am looking to hire Production workers, FEMALES only. Is it legal to advertise as such, or is that discriminatory??

Except if there is a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) as noted above in several posts. However, it is hard to imagine that such exists in the case of production workers.

Dorothym -- I agree with the post by MsJatika. Firstly, the most important response that we, as HR Business Partners, can give to a hiring manager is to inquire why the organization would want to do something that, at first glance, would seem to be both illegal AND counter-productive. Without knowing the rationale, it is difficult for us to give good business advice. Secondly, if there is a legitimate, business related objective that can only be addressed by hiring females (which would seem in this case to be unlikely), it is HR’s role to provide you with various solutions to the issue that will not only positively impact your objective, but do so within the confines of the law, and best business practices. So, I would be interested in knowing what type of production work is involved, and why you feel a “females only” recruiting/selection strategy will give you a competitive advantage. What say you?

Daily Q&A
How to Address Flagging Motivation?
How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
