Hi:
Employee theft costs retailers more every year than shoplifting. According to the 2006 National Retail Security Survey--approximately $20 billion per year is lost by U.S. retailers to employee theft. Given the significance of this problem and the various means of committing theft, I suspect most retailers would have terminated these employees.

I trust this is helpful.

She went pretty far down that slippery slope. I would not be able trust her again. Saying she counted it as cash doesn't make things better at all... it wasn't cash, so she falsified the cash totals, too. She's very lucky she was only demoted.

I have been in law enforcement for 8 years. I am at the bottom of the totem pole with the agency I work. I am actively seeking other employment. After 8 years. it is apparent, it is more about who you know in law enforcement than how well you do your job. I have a degree, I am very professional and I am a reliable worker, yet I have gotten nowhere in this line of work. I have lost my respect for it.

Epona- Ok so now you have gotten your unhappiness off your chest, here is the reality. First, although it took you a while, you have learned a valuable lesson. That is, it is never sufficient to just be good at your job. On the job relationships (sometimes called fit) can be more important.

Have you had a frank conversation about your unhappiness with your supervisor? If so, did he/she suggest some possible ways you can improve your situation?

While I am not sure, it sounds like you work for a branch of government. Politics are very important in the government like it is in the private sector. There are lots of competition for all positions particularly for promotions. To move up you have be both respected AND liked.

When you find your next opportunity, you will be able to work on this from a clean slate. It is also helpful to find a mentor, regardless if it is inside or outside the company you work for. Good luck!
