Is there any prohibition on how long each day and judge may require a juror to work?

This would be a matter of state law.

But I doubt that there is a limite.

Wow, that is tough. A judge here works jurors into the evening hours and then has them back first thing in the mornings.

Happens all the time when a case goes to the jury for a verdict.

It is what makes our system great. If you were the accused or the plaintiff wouldn't you want the jury to work hard and render a decision?

From a purely economic perspective, it's far cheaper to work $50/day jurors late than it is to continue a trial with all its attendant public servants for 8 hours per day - day after day. Good management of taxpayer dollars.

Wow I wish we got $50 a day! Here it is more like $8 which isn't even enough to pay for public parking near the courthouse!

I wish they had to pay minimum wage....

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
