Witness Duty - paid or unpaid?

Currently we have a Jury Duty policy that entitles the emps paid time off, not using their personal time off. I now have an emp that was subponaed to witness duty by the Superior Court. Should this be

Currently we have a Jury Duty policy that entitles the emps paid time off, not using their personal time off. I now have an emp that was subponaed to witness duty by the Superior Court. Should this be counted just like jury duty and the emp would get paid? |

I am not sure what witness duty is. Were they called to testify as a witness? If so, was it through any actions of theirs? I was a witness in a robbery trial and was called to potentially testify twice. Luckily once it was postponed and the second time they plea bargained. In a case like that, I would still pay wages.
However if they were called to due to something under their control (i.e. say not paying back child support etc), I would require they use personal time or PTO. While I do wish our company could pay for time off for jury duty, in most cases we do not. |
