What do you do if you have a masters in HR and the HR Dept. Interviewers do not? How do you get past the "over qualified" rap?

If you have any work (related) experience, your degree should not be a hinderance. "Over qualified" is courtesy for "not interested." What are your expectations (re: what jobs are you qualified for, in your opinion?) The 'bottom-line' is you need to 'get in the door' to complete your residency. You need practice in "selling yourself." All that a MS guarantees, is someone paid for the extra year - or two (2) of schooling! Your Masters degree would be highly respected in a professional selling environment. If I can make a recommendation, select the company that you would want to be associated with. Get the professional sales training that the company provides. Then spend a year or two (2) honing your skills. (You'll earn a 'ton' if you're successful. In any case you probably won't be an abject failure.) Get to know the folks in HR and make your career plans known to them. (As high up the ranks as you can deliver the message.) If you gain credibility and you aren't the 'unlikeable sort',when an opportunity presents itself, you should be in a position to take advantage of it. Best of luck to you!

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
