I work for a large insurance company in Africa. The employee profile is predominantly white and very conservative and links Aids to promiscuity. The company is in the process of implementing an Aids programme, but we pick up so much resistance and ingnorance from employees. I would like to know of any specific communication strategies (targeting senior management, middle management and administrative staff seperately) that will enable us to successfully communicate the message of prevention an support and also to create an enviroment of understanding, acceptance, openess and willingness to make a difference.

I work for an AIDS prevention organization in the US. My organization wil go to businesses and do HIV 101 for at new employee orientations. We do this free of charge. I would first go and see if there is a non profit AIDS prevention effort in the area and see if you could first set up education for your top execs. I would love to be the one to do it for you but the tickets to Africa are a bit expensive right now. (smile)
The next thing is to explain to your execs that a non judgmental approach to dealing with this problem is the best way. You can liken the disease to heart disease that can be prevented by eating better and exercising more or scirrocis of the liver which is caused often by too much drinking. Many diseases that afflict the human race are preventable but not curable. Therefore, we need to focus on prevention...not judgement.
Now a couple of websites that can help you go to your execs fully armed are www.cdc.gov and www.brta-ltra.org. I will also email you some research I have done on the topic.
