I'm new to Workforce and have been reading your posts. I believe employees come to us with their questions because of the HUMAN in Human Resources. Sounds logical to me.

Hey, I'm new to this site and I have to tell you all that I've really enjoyed reading your comments. I can relate to every single situation (my office is next to the restrooms). Never a dull moment in HR!!! By the way, could anyone share with me what they use as software or templates for employee reviews? I've been using Employee Appraiser for several years now and am having managers complain that the language sounds "too canned"...which it does. Thought I'd look to a group of professionals who actually use the product before I scope out a vendor who will only give me their "spin" on the item. Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer!

I love being the go-to person! Once an employee brought a cup of coffee which he had purchased from the company vending machine to me with a roach floating in it. Of course he was furious! Should he have gone to Maintenance? Sure, but they would have said, "Ya, we'll spray for roaches." Instead, I calmed the employee, gave him a gift certificate to Starbucks, and spoke to Maintenence on his behalf. Is this the stuff I do all day??? NO, but this is what makes my job interesting!

I think I like the word "HUMAN" in Human Resources but most HRM dept dont have it.

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
