Any suggestions on how to deal with an overbearing CEO? He has no regard to policies and believes that he has the only and final decision. If it is not his idea, it will not fly. Employee morale here

Find another job. Trying to change the CEO may well get you fired.

Here's what has always worked for me...Never and I mean Never say no to the CEO's ideas. Instead say "We can do it that way -- but we should work out what you are going to say on the witness stand first." Of course you need to be a big picture thinker, so that you can follow his blunders down the logical path to a law suit. Then you interject a question: What do you really want to accomplish? When you find out what the CEO's goals are you can suggest some alternative and less litiginous paths to achieve them...Have fun!

Hopefully you are not the only one that disagrees with the CEO. Most companies put a specific person into this role as they are the chosen one to drive the business as they see fit. Their game plan may not fit with yours, but unless you can get a group consensus, you'd best look for another job. Change normally comes from the top down, and unfortunately there are some battles we cannot win.

Daily Q&A
How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?
Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
