Within our agency we have 1.5 Full-time Human Resources Professionals which handle all of the HR Functions. We are looking to upgrade and make the PT HR Assistant a Full-Time HR Assistant. We have 220+ employees (not including P/T and Temporary Staff) at the present time and we are growing. What is the appropriate ratio of Full-Time HR Staff to Full-Time Employees? Also, do you know where I can find back up statistics from different article and/or organizations to present to the Executive Director?

To answer some of the very good questions raised above, none of our functions are outsourced. We work for a non-for-profit agency. For example, all of our resumes are received and entered into a word document because we do not have a scanning system. We do not have an HRIS at the moment and all of the HR function go through the director before any other department such as payroll.

I recall seeing a ratio of 1 HR professional to every 100 employees. It has been a while ago. I think that BNA had a series out that had sample policies as well as some statistical comparisons. Hope this helps.

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
