Does anyone else shake their head at the e-mail addresses people put on their resumes these days??? Today, I had one from stankyfranky@(something).com! What has happened to professionalism?

Oh, you would be surprised (or not!). In my previous position we looked at over 10,000 emailed resumes/month while entering them into a database. Candidates not only had unbelievable email addresses but would supply nude pictures of themselves, pictures of their kids to prove they had a family and needed a job, etc. It was always a treat to get a laughable resume!

Yeah, I love those email addresses. If you're looking for a job, perhaps you'd like to register for something more professional than sexymamma@blah blah.com - and yes, I received that email address on a resume. Along with countless others referring to various, uh...to phrase delicately, "extracurricular" activities.

Fortunately, some people make it so easy to decide what should go into the trash.

We once got a resume from someone who listed "beer" as an extracurricular activity.

One of my favorites was hepooped@whatever.com.

I, too, am amazed by what people choose. Especially when you can get a free one so easily!

I don't care what you say, if the spelling checks out, they've passed the first hurdle!

Seriously, the spelling from the younger generation is just awful!

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
