Does anyone else shake their head at the e-mail addresses people put on their resumes these days??? Today, I had one from stankyfranky@(something).com! What has happened to professionalism?

I have found that some of the less normal, but also less offensive email addresses can be a good way to break the ice with a candidate on a phone interview. "Gee Ryan, why I think the most amusing one I've seen recently is fiziksguy@wherever...

However, I also interviewed sexiangel1978@somewhere today... there are some things that are better left unsaid.

I agree, if for no other reason than looking professional, get yourname@hotmail.com or something like that. I won't discriminate against you because of your email address, but boy does it say something about you as a person, and in the medical field, we have an obligation to make sure we get stable people into our positions.

This is always my favorite topic to discuss with other HR folks. If you can't laugh at some of these mistakes, what can you do?

I received a resume recently that was on (Halloween) orange paper, the email address being grrrrr8@blah blah.com, and under the "accomplishments" heading was..."I have a cat."

Thanks for the laugh!! I was cruising around looking for FMLA input and found this place! Spell check will be the downfall of this generation. Someone sent their resume in that contained an accomplishment of "excellent pubic relations skills." It still makes me laugh!!! And, yes, some candidates self select out and into the trash with their imtoosexyforthisjob@hireme.com email addresses! Talk about professional!

The funniest email I came across for a high level management postion was lazyassranch@blah.com. Wonder what that says about his work ethic?

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
