THANKFULLY, before sending this out the supervisor asked me to 'look over it'! I could not believe that she was actually going to give this to the employees in her department. It leaves the company open for so many employee issues/problems! I rewrote the entire document.

Below is the original document BEFORE I tore it apart:

notes for group
1. We will be watching the phone usage more closely. If you need to use the phone for an extended period due to emergency you will need to let me know.
If this is abused you will be written up. Everyone has been warned of phone use when working. We have gone over talking on the phone and doing
your work can cause errors. Talking on the phone during work hours needs to be limited. This does not mean you sit and talk on the phone for 30
minutes or more when there is work to be done.
2. Starting this week there will be no more time to make up. You will need to use vacation time (1hour increments) or with out pay.
3. All work for the task you are doing will be caught up as you leave daily. As before if you need help ask.
If you are out no one knows what needs to be done.
Orders need to authorized in a timely manor and not the day they are due. I know sometimes this is impossible due to the amount of orders in certain
tasks; example perm out and scheme connect/disconnects, vas which are in one day and due the next.
4. Use of cell phones for personal calls.
You need to go out of the work area on a break. This needs to be a reasonable amount of time.
5. We may go to a 2 week rotation of tasks. This may start in Sept. as we have the Centennial install coming the 3rd week of this month
6. If errors continue and you have been made aware of them.
You will written up for work performance.
If the person doing the Q&A finds an error with your work in the switch you will be given a copy of the order and return it with the corrected print out
from the switch the person doing the Q&A. This will go into you file.
If you have 5 errors that would have caused problems for the customer or initiate a trouble ticket you will be written up.
Even though Q&A checks the orders. The responsibility lies with the person doing the switch.
Q&A may get busy and not be able to check all the orders. Thus resulting in problems for the customer.
7. Service order input (NEW INSTALLS) in the 5E will be done in the 1.8 screen only. This screen will be sure to populate the tt field.
1.6 for order entry is unacceptable per upper management.
8. Database errors do not effect the customer although they are important when queries are done to match the switch against data. I will continue to log
errors made in the databases. Once the new system goes in to effect there should be a double check of data. However until this happens we must keep
good records.
9. You have specified time to report for work. 7-4, 8-5 8:30 to 5:30. Continuous coming in late will create to need to make changes in scheduling.
We have 1 hour for lunch please take one hour. I know sometimes several go out to eat together on occasion and sometime it is un avoidable to make
it back in 1 hour. I do not have a problem with this. Please do not abuse it, or this will also change.

These information for the most part has been repeated before verbally. Now we are pushed to take affirmative action. If your work continues to reflect errors you will be written up.

Like you, this "letter" leaves me shaking my head. Who "writes up" this manager for poor performance? The best you can say is that thankfully the manager checked with you before it was sent. Gee, isn't HR interesting! Carol

Wow, unbelievable! I think we need an HR intervention here. No doubt your next logical step would be to facilitate training on the "how tos" for your supervisor(s)?

The worst thing I every saw was an email that a manager asked me to put in an employees personnel file. The email was himself and another manager discussing how to fire the associate.

If the employee every saw the letter and decided to seek legal counsel a lawyer could have easily turned the verbiage into "Plotting to Fire the Employee"

What a lawsuit!

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
