I'm writing a book called called "How to Ace the Brainteaser Interview." It will be published by McGraw-Hill in 2004.

The book will give candidates some thoughts and tools how to handle brainteasers and riddles of the order, Why are manhole covers round? And If you had to eliminate one of the 50 states, which one would you choose?

I welcome examples of good (and bad) riddles as well as anecdotes about their use in job interviews.

For those who use these riddles, what are you looking for?

Please post your responses here or email me directly at jkador@jkador.com.

Hello John:

Good to read you again. If manhole covers were not round, they could fall into the manhole when beging removed or replaced.

Daily Q&A

How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?

Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
