How do you think about this? is there anyone who already report to CFO?

There used to be a VP of HR, and there isn't anymore? Or, the top HR person used to report to the CEO now reports to the CFO? And this isn't a temporary arrangement?

I'd be concerned that HR doesn't have a seat at the executive table. You should try to find out what the rationale was.

I don't know the size of your company, but we are fairly small, under 100 employees. I currently report to the CFO and have since my arrival here. It was a brand new position when I started three years ago. I had reservations, however, the situation has worked out great for both of us. I have the freedom and flexibility to do what I deem is best for the company and he has taught me a lot in relations to cost options and effectiveness. It gives me a strong backing when I present to the remainder of the executive committee. We meet once every two weeks to discuss project plans and implementation. I think that you may be surprised how many HR folks currently have this reporting structure. I read a great article a few months ago on the topic in the September 2003 HR Magazine put out by SHRM. The article was entitled "Business Partners". Give it shot, it may work out for you.

Currently, I am a generalist who reports to a VP of HR and he reports to the CFO. The reporting line works very well for the structure of our company. The CFO knows very little about HR but trusts us in all of these issues for guidance and he supports us in every way.
