I am an employee in HR and I went to my supervisor asking to leave early to interview for another part time job. I told her what it was for because a fews days earlier I had to leave early for a doctor's appointment. In attempt to be honest and upfront. Her reaction was mixed. I have been told in the past that I can leave early and make up the time within the same week (FLSA). I honestly do a great job at work, but can this be used in the future against me?

Yes, unfortunately, in an at-will employment situation, pretty much anything (except your race, gender, religion, disability and so on along those lines) can be held against you.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't look very favorably on an employee asking to leave for an interview either, even if just for an additional part-time job. The reason is that the new job is already interfering your current job, and you don't even have the job yet!

In the future, I would ask if I could leave early for an appointment. Any more detail is not necessary. Also, I would let them know that I could reschedule the appointment if necessary.

I feel it is important to let your employer know that you are a team player.
