Let's been honest here! I'm still voting for President, U.S. Senator, Cabinet Member, Astronaut, Top 10 professional anything ----I've been in HR for more than 25 and less than 30 years ---it has its highs and lows--it's a profession if you make so or it's a job just like many others. How may of you still hear from your "clients"--"I don't have much use for HR, but YOU are great," or "you are different!" That sometimes says it all.
I enjoy solving problems or bringing a different perspective to a business issue.
For those who may reading this who are new to HR ---become a business person who can apply HR skills --if you don't know the business your company is in, you will not provide the value needed to run the business.

Those companies and employees that I have helped over the last decade will be able to say : " She came, she saw, she made a real difference "

I am going to be brutally honest here. I am good at manipulating (not in the devious sense) people and solving puzzles. That is why I like HR. It is being able to look at the big puzzle picture (Company goals) and see what pieces (the people) to move to get the results, those pieces cant be placed in the puzzle any which way. They must be manipulated to fit to complete the puzzle.
What I dont like is similar to what has been stated. I have worked for owners/CEOs who want their HR person to be strictly a party planner and paper pusher. That is not me.

Daily Q&A
How Do We Keep Our Best During Upheaval?
Things are getting scary for us. We recently had to downsize, and since then have lost some of our best people to other jobs. Aside from boosting their pay (which isn't feasible now), what practical steps can we take to keep them from quitting on us?
