Hi Pajamas,
A sound understanding of the new role of HR Departments can be gained by reading "Tomorrow's HR Management" by Dave Ulrich, Michael R. Losey, and Gerry Lake. See ISBN 0-471-19714-9 and published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A good book that outlines the role of human resources with internet sources and case studies would be helpful. "Managing Human Resources" by Arthur Sherman, George Bohlander, and Scott Snell published by South-Western College Publishing with an ISBN 0-538-87075-3. Look on the internet for the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). You can gain access to their white papers and library. Look for a local college chapter or community chapter to gain access to mentors. Let the adventure begin! Lee A.
