Does anyone know if it is possible to create an applicant tracking system using Microsoft Access (or other inexpensive database mgmt program)? I am assisting a non-profit organization, so there is no $ to buy an expensive tracking system.

Mark,

I'd reccomend creating an internship program for a MIS student at nearby college or university. They can then develop a fairly sophisticated applicant tracking system that is web-based and uses php.

The internship interests me and is an avenue I will investigate, but would also like a some information on the use of exell also if you could supply some.

bkaa - If you are still offering tips on creating an applicant tracking system in Excel, I am very interested and would be forever grateful. Please email me if you are able to help.

My company also has no $ to spend on a system, so I've been trying to do one in Access on my own. My Access skills are limited at best so I'm only at the point where I can enter the info in a form and look it up in a table with some very rudimentary reporting. I had been considering trying it in Excel - then I saw this post!

The answer is yes to your question. One of my recruitment team's in the past built a pretty robust applicant tracking system utilizing MicroSoft Access. The big question is how much has your organization budgeted for this project? The internship sounds good but you probably want someone who can evaluate your process and build it according to your requirements. In addition, there are some pretty inexpensive applicant tracking systems that can be hosted as an ASP model. Send me a line for more details, I probably can still find the diskette that has the tool to get you up and running quickly.
