Interview Questions for Delivery Drivers

I've been tasked with interviewing internal candidates for an open delivery driver position, and I'm a little stumped for good questions to ask during the interview. My current position is with a manufacturing company, but my background is in white-collar environments so this is new for me.
Aside from the basics, i.e. good driving record, ability to read a map, basic auto maintence skills, what would questions do you suggest? It's important the the driver also have good interpersonal skills. Any help is appreciated! |

Tell me about a time (work-related) you had to deal with a difficult person. What was the situation and how did you handle it?
Tell me about a recent upsetting experience (scary weather, accident, being cut off, unsafe conditions or similar) you've had while driving. What was it, and how did you handle it? What special driving and/or driving safety courses have you taken lately? Are there any courses in this area you've been wanting to take? Why? How have you been planning to take these courses? |

Have you thought of asking the current or past delivery drivers what they do? Base your questions on what they actually do every day on the job, not just what the job description says.
Behavioural questions are nice, but usually only decribe their personality, ethics, morals, and behaviour preferences, not whether they have the aptitude for the job. |
