The time to fill totally depends on the skill sets you're looking for. Senior executive searches can typically take 3 - 6 months, an engineer with relatively common skill sets 4- 6 weeks and longer for rare skills. Hourly workers can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. There are also lots of other variables - how good the company is, how much it pays, the work location/work conditions, how good the staffing deaprtment is, etc. Even time of year enters into it. All of these are probably the reasons why you can't find any concrete data because there simply isn't any. You might have better luck contacting specific companies and asking them what their time to fill data is.

In Corporate Recruiting, regardless if it was an exempt or nonexempt position, the goal, and the expectations we set with our hiring managers was 4-6. The first week posting job ads/sourcing, second week: phone interviewing, third week: personality/cognitive testing, having the applicants fill out the application, fourth week: hiring manager interviews, and hopefully an offer was extended at the end of the 4th week. The 5-6 weeks were consumed by the applicant waiting out their last courtesy 2 wks, background checks and/or 2nd, 3rd round interviews. Of course, sometimes it went faster and slower depending on the manager, the position and the job market. However, all of the Corporate Recruiter's performance goals in regards to time-to fill was based on the 4-6 week window. hope this helps!

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
