How do we get you to work with us? I am a corporate recruiter with a number of years of experience yet I have found that unless you have a specific job open you simply wont deal with me. This makes no sense -I would think you would want to have a pool of talent you could contact when a job opens up. Some of you will not even take a resume. What gives, folks? Why do you do this?

Lots of people think that having a "pool of talent" available is the way to recruit.
That really doesn't work for agency recruiters. First, building a "pool" takes time, and it's time that does not result in revenue/income/paycheck dollars. Second, you can build a pool all you want, but unless there will positively absolutely be jobs for those people in the future it's a waste of time. And third, anyone who's any good will have found a job by the time you actually get a job order.
Sounds like a great idea in theory; in reality, doesn't work so well.
If you were to go to an agency and say I'll pay you $XXXXX upfront to simply send me qualified resumes, you might get some interest. But without the $XXXXX, the agency recruiter will move on to the company which actually has jobs.
