Offer Letter Grace Period
Exchange ideas about sourcing, screening, interviewing, finding passive candidates, measuring your results, and more.
Is there a certain amount of time you have to give a candidate for them to respond to an offer of employment? A candidate told us we have to give him 10 days to respond to our offer by law.

Hi:
I'm aware of no statutory mandate that would support your applicant's contention. As an aside, certainly the prudent employer would designate a specific window of time during which a tendered offer of employment can be accepted.
I trust this is helpful. Parenthetically, sounds like this person is a bit contentious at such an early stage of the potential employment relationship.

I agree with Dave on all points. I'd give him 72 hours max and be done. (As an aside with this one I'd withdraw the offer and look further)

Agree with HRPro on all (and Dave as well). If this person is throwing non-existant "laws" at you at this point, imagine what it'll be like having this person as an employee.
Rescind the offer.

Daily Q&A
How to Address Flagging Motivation?
How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
