At our company we are looking for unique ways to interview our managerial and professional candidates. One of the suggestions we are looking into is to have the candidate host a presentation about themselves. This way, the interviewers can get a feel of the candidate's presentation, communication and delivery style. Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions on the format you may use or one we could use to make this a valuable tool to evaluate candidates?

I don't do this but I think your idea has merit. The greatest challenge you will face is making it relevant to the essential duties of the position. Good job descriptions will help you immensely there.
Let us know how it turns out.

The best place to start here centers around two main questions. What industry are you in and what type of management positions are you considering opening up new requisitions for? Outside of the right fitting candidate's technical aptitued within their field, there should be a large emphasis on the management candidate's communication style, their ability to present material, leadership competency, etc... If one of your company's main concerns with their management lays within the presentation abilities of said candidates, quite possibly a focus during the interview should govern what type of personality/behavioral traits does the candidate display; and if the candidate may lack in such an area, do they have the aptitude to develop their skills into being a more polished presenter? If the candidate is asked to perform such a task during an interview without establishing any type of prior communication with their intended audience, this may put some candidates on the spot and rule out some that may be technically polished, but may not have had the opportunity to develop more advanced presentation skills. Of course, if on day 2 of a candidate's employment they will be expeted to conduct a presentation in front of the BoD, then you might want to target the candidate who is used to taking things shaken and not stirred.

Daily Q&A
How to Address Flagging Motivation?
How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
