I've been trying to recruit for various HR positions in NYC for a very particular client whose ideal candidate is a year or two out of college with HR or high volume admin experience. Any candidates with four or more years are turned away. Career Builder and Monster have been minded out and the usual postings have all been utilized. I've been trying social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn, although I'm finding a lot of our ideal candidates might not be on LinkedIn yet or not aware of job boards outside of CB, Craigslist and Monster. Most of the resumes I'm receiving or have found are either just graduating or have too much experience. Any tips or ideas for reaching this difficult demographic would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dan

You can try your local HR association websites as well as the shrm.org website. Also go to the local universities and post there - a lot if not most have alumni job sites.

Thank you for your reply. I've actually contacted most schools in the area and have postings up on their job boards. Long-term I'd like to establish relationships with colleges outside the area, but for now we have to look at candidates in the area. I've also looked into posting on SHRM and other HR websites, but it seems the more targeted the website, the more it costs and right now they haven't given me any sourcing budget.
Thanks again for the input!
Dan

Get some budget. It's as true in recruiting as in any other endeavor that "you get what you pay for"!
Good luck!

Daily Q&A
How to Address Flagging Motivation?
How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
