I am wondering if anyone out there has recruited for positions in Monterey, CA, and can share what challenges they faced. Is it difficult to get people to work there since the housing is so expensive?

What kind of positions are you hiring for?

Californians do realize that commuting may be a daily part of life. With that in mind, you might want to look at recruiting in communities such as Watsonville, Salinas and even up the coast in Santa Cruz and Aptos. They're within commuting range of Monterrey.

Our concern is will people want the commute if we are offering the same salary as jobs in those other areas, such as San Jose? These are IT jobs. Just wondering if this is a challenge others have faced. Thanks for your reply.

If I lived in any of those cities I mentioned, I think I'd prefer to go to Monterrey rather than fighting the Bay Area traffic. Monterrey is certainly closer to Salinas and Watsonville than is San Jose.

I think that many from the central valley would commute to Monterey. Monterey is one of my favorite places to visit. I grew up in the Bay Area and I can't imagine Monterey not being appealing to someone.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
