I'm currently doing a search for a VP-level candidate, and I had thought that applicants for this level would possess somewhat more intellectual capacity than the average applicant for lower-level positions, but oh no!

There are the applicants who think sending me their resumes 12+ times over a two-day period will somehow get them an interview...and the applicants whose spelling and grammar skills are completely non-existent...and then the very junior person who applied this morning and admitted that she was too junior for a VP title, so if I would be so kind as to change the title to something less imposing, she'd be willing to come in for an interview!

And finally, a guy that I interviewed who was so horribly rude to me during the interview (told me upfront he was insulted at having to meet with an "HR gal" first and then refused to answer most of my questions because he said - in an outraged tone - they were "none of [my] business") that I didn't pass him along to the CEO for a second meeting...so he sends an email to the CEO complaining about this and when the CEO asks me about the interview I responded factually about the candidate's rudeness, and then the CEO showed me the email, and the guy actually used the B-word to describe me!

I'll say one thing about what this ol' job of mine has taught me (and continues to teach me) - I will never get complacent when it comes to human behaviour!

(Just venting, thanks for your patience.  Smile)

There seems to be a school of thought out there that you can somehow make up for a competence deficiency with arrogance and BS.

I've certainly seen the arrogance and BS approach to job seeking before, but mostly by candidates for political office.

In Response to Oh, the joys of recruiting...:

I've found that there are jerks at all levels.  Over the years I've encountered arrogant candidates who felt they were somehow lowering themselves to even speak with me.  However, I've told them point blank, if you don't impress ME - you don't get an opportunity to impress anyone else.

I hope you told him that his email was an excellent example why he didn't get passed along as a viable candidate.  To use the "b" word and call you an "HR girl" was unprofessional, inappropriate, and an indicator of a potential future sexual harrassment or discrimation claim.  Does he really want that kind of person working for his organization?

With the development of informationization, the pace of life in the city speeds up, while human communication becomes superficial and reduced. Therefore, many people attend to find shortcut to find their spouse by advertising on newspaper, TV or Internet. Because they think it saves their time as well as helps them to find their ideal couple. new york escorts However, as far as I observe, this so-call quick and convenient way may do more harm than good.
First, as we all know that advertisements are tempting but deceptive. In order to attract target customers, the advertisements are full filled with decorated expressions. The new york asian escort advertisement for spouse, with no exception, will either exaggerate their wealth or fabricate their status and identity in order to tempt te prey. For example, an ugly new york asian escorts man with bad temper will describe himself as a handsome and even-tempered.
Second, even if you were lucky enough not to get deceived in the beginning and happened to find a spouse new york asian escorts through the advertisement, there would still be many problems in later life, because the spouse got in this way may be unstable. Before they know each other, they live in quite different social interactions. They may be different in temper, interests and life styles. Therefore, it's hard for the two to live peacefully together. Besides, marriage is the combination of two families. Except for the two, their families are important factors that have great impacts on their marriage.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
