So you are thinking about automating your time and attendance practices at your organization? Where do you begin?

First, take a look at what your organization is currently doing to track and monitor your employees time and attendance and construct a list of must-haves. These must-haves are very important when choosing a time and attendance system. Why? Well, if you buy a system, and find out that you cant automate the things that were most important to you then what is the point? You are not really buying something that will make your job easier.

Ex. When it comes to tracking absences Say you are currently manually entering in your employees absence requests into a spreadsheet, which then needs to be approved by a supervisor, which then needs to be signed off and returned in another spreadsheet and finally made into a schedule

If this is something you were looking to automate, and youve already purchased your new time and attendance system and now you find out it cannot perform this specific function now what?

How about technical support? Are you receiving top notch support services? Or when you call for help, are you getting a call centre that doubles up as a pizza delivery order desk? Better yet, the company you choose no longer supports the product in a few years down the road.
Is the system fully customizable? Or is it an out of the box solution that has a few variables that can be changed? Out of the box time and attendance solutions are not always the best fit. Sure the price tag might look great at a glance, but is it really doing everything you wanted? Most likely there will be several functions that are missing.

This is why customized demos are so important. Organizations handle their time and attendance operations differently everywhere. How can simple standard demos or promo videos prove to you that the software can handle your complicated pay rules?!

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
