We are looking into implementing some internal on-line surveys in our organization. This software will initially be used on an external server, and will eventually be used on our intranet (currently under construction). This would serve as a method for conducting employee satisfaction measures, as well as to provide departmental performance feedback. Could any of you share your experience/recommendations with this type of software.

Results from an on-line instrument is probably easier to tally and analyze, however you may have a tougher row to hoe in convincing employees that their feedback is confidential. They probably would have to sign-on for access to the instrument...no matter how sincere you are that you wouldn't be keeping track of who said what, the fact is that you (or your MIS department) COULD.

A great resource and technology can be found at www.knowledge-wave.com, and I think www.survey-wave.com. Good people who really know what they're doing. We've recommended them to our customers in the past.

I work for a managed care organization with less than 500 employees. We recently completed a company-wide survey and utilized software from Zoomerang www.zoomerang.com
They have a free version that you can use with limited features. We liked the software and purchased the full version with unlimited surveys and additional features. The reporting was a little tidious because you can only export to Excel and the vendor does not give you much to work with as far as cross-tabulation. We have learned to strategically formulate our questions so that the reporting will be less cumbersome.

I used to work for a restaurant chain with 11 locations and we conducted a semi-annual survey of approx. 1100 employees.
If you are computer software literate, by far the best product I found for surveys was STATPAC. The software cost us around 1000.00 but was well worth it. If you don't have a website for hosting the survey, they offer one for you to use. The reports were exceptional from very simple to crazy detail. Also, the customer support was wonderful with very quick and patient replies!

Check it out (www.statpac.com)

I will second the Zoomerang recommendation. I used it to survey my performance to 19 of my subordinates and it worked well and was very confidential. They did not have to enter any personal information and as I recall, no information for that matter. In return, I got detailed stats on my performance and all I had to do was spend about 30 minutes creating the survey.

Try out firepoll.com, you can have a custom built app for your system that is great. All anonymous and very easy to use.

check out http://www.macer.com/
Tim Macer evaluates online research software and his site is a good source to find the right solution that meets your requirements.

Take also a look at Globalpark (UK / Germany):

A very good survey software.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
