If you are using a payroll service, you may want to see what HR features they can offer you at a minimal price. $1,000 is not a lot of money and I woudl venture to guess that a good standalone HR product would cost considerably more than that.

You cannot get "all the basic features" for under $1,000. Try being realistic, you need to invest some money if you want a system that will work. If you only have a grand to spend, your probably too small to be using an HR system anyhow.

if you are willing to use system, you should invest more, not less than $5,000..and each system can work well considering the functional requirements of your organization.

You can try OrangeHRM (www.orangehrm.com). It is open source and therefore free and it contains the basic features. There is a demo on the website as well.

Kind regards

Rasmus

Realistically, you might have to spend more than you want( not a lot more, but more) to get yourself a good, reliable HRIS system. ADP is who we use and we are very happy with them. We have 150 employees and is gives us ESS, MSS, and open enrollment.

I think with the advent of open sourced products you should be able to find what you need very soon for less than $500. Don't listen to those that say you must spend X dollars. I suggest you use a leased system (to save $$). Make sure you can get your data out of the leased system for no cost and in either 'csv' or 'xml' output. These data formats should allow for an easy transition to another product. Good luck!

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
