I work for an insurance/financial organization which has ~330 employees. We are looking for an ERP which would work for the following areas: HR, Payroll, General Ledger, Budgeting, Actuarial, Cash Management, Tax and Financial Reporting areas.

Has anyone worked with an ERP which seemed to do well for all areas and didn't lose sight of HR needs? I don't want this to end up being a finace system that doesn't work well for HR.

Thoughts and lessons learned would be greatly appreciated!

Karen,

Your fear is real...most ERPs fall short in the areas that don't make them their money. HRMS is one of those areas. With the exception of PeopleSoft who started in the HRMS world, most ERPs are vertical product focused, that is, positioning their financials, procurement, etc. offerings based on the industry they serve. In fact most carry multiple industry verticals that further "waterdown" their R&D resources.

You need to ask yourself this question... Is my fear of not getting exactly what I want greater than the fear of buying from a Best of Breed?

Reality hurts! You may or may not get the support internally if you break away for the core decision team. If you don't get the corporation's blessing than you will never achieve what your trying to accomplish.

Look for building a case for what you really want. DON'T SETTLE IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO!

Wish you well in your search.
