HRIS for Trucking Industry
Discuss how to choose system that will yield the best results, as well as how to maintain it, and how to calculate its return on investment.
I would be interested in hearing from others in Transport what you are using for HRIS, Payroll and Staffing. I am especially interested in whether anyone has identified an HRIS that can handle drivers

I would be interested in hearing from others in Transport what you are using for HRIS, Payroll and Staffing. I am especially interested in whether anyone has identified an HRIS that can handle drivers paid by the mile, rather than by the hour. We currently calculate the gross in our driver management system, passing a single gross amountweekly to payroll, which calculates taxes and other deductions. Because of this, we really have no Comp data in the HRIS for drivers.

Have you considered keeping track of this information in an automated time and attendance system? I have seen other transport companies keep track of drivers mileage that way. Then have a calculation built into the system that takes the mileage and turns it into earnings that can then be passed to payroll and reported on. I hope this is helpful. If you want the name of systems that can do this, let me know I'd be happy to help.

It sounds like you have very complex pay rules. We do, too, and we are currently looking to automate out Time & Attendance. We are looking at ADP and Enterprise eTime because I heard it can handle the complexities and integrate with our payroll.

Daily Q&A
How to Address Flagging Motivation?
How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
