Any suggestions on how to convert vacation hours that have been awarded on date of hire and now wanting to move to an accrued system? I am trying to avoid having current staff wait a full year to accrue vacation time. I understand a new hire, but am challenged with doing this with current staff. Thanks

We recently did this at our company. All employees were assigned an accrual rate based on their years of service. Current hours available were added to the sum of their accrual rate times the number of weeks since their last anniversary date. Employees now accrue weekly or bi-weekly, depending on their pay cycle.
The hardest part was getting the employees to understand there would be no lump sum given on their next anniversary. The hours they would have gotten on their anniversary date was split into a lump sum given now for weeks accrued between their last anniversary date and weekly accrual from this point on. So, by the time they did hit their next anniversary date, they would already have the hours available.
