Hi all:

I'm trying to select a new timeclock (we currently use the full handpunch from ADP but CONSTANTLY have issues with it). Has anyone had experience with products from Pyramid Technologies, Acroprint, Amano, or Lathem?

My ideal timeclock would have ethernet capabilities as well, since our timeclock is a few miles from my office. If not, I can always drive to the site once or twice a week.

Thanks in advance for any feedback or suggestions!

I looked at Pyramid and a number of other systems for a company about 4 years ago. Ended up going with Time & Attendance Enterprise software with biometric hand readers. Cost was a major consideration. The software was very flexible but somewhat of a pain to get set up due to the number of variables. Hand readers took some getting used to. Employees with rings had problems at first since the jewelry had to be in the exact same spot each time they clocked in or out.

Do you require a biometric clock? Usually, biometrics are needed only if there is a known problem with buddy punching.

There are a wide variety of Ethernet enabled clocks on the market. Some are better than others, but I think the one you choose will have to be compatible with the labor management system that you use. Is that ADP? If so, is the hand punch the only clock theyre offering you?

If your clock is a few miles from your office, it sounds like one that can communicate directly with a web-based system would be ideal. Then, you could access the data from anywhere, anytime. A colleague of mine just deployed a system called Timesheetplus in this fashion and he tells me its working well for him. and hes still able to use ADP for payroll processing.

The unit that will meet your needs is undoubtedly the BRS range (Bio Recognition Systems). You can get either the BioScan or BioLock models here. They are rentable, purchasable, ehternet networkable and have inexpensive add-on units after the first unit is purachased. www.bundyspecialists.com.au/time-clocks.php?id=1 Just read the spec sheets on the software as this is one of the biggest differences in price and functionality. An email with questions is always well responded to in my experience with Bundy Specialists.

If remote access is your biggest issue, then they also have a fingertec model that uses TCP/IP, RS232, RS485, USB Flash Disk port, Wifi and GPRS!! It's the bottom one at www.bundyspecialists.com.au/time-clocks.php?id=2#FINGERTEC iKiosk 100

I have used Pyramid Technologies (PTI) Time Trax Bio which lets you log in and out with your finger. It works great for our small business of about 25 people.

Paychex has a Biometric Ethernet Clock that integrates with payroll. Look at leasing vs. buying options and make sure it alleviates buddy punching options.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
