I use one for management classes that talks about setting expectations by the way we describe a job to be done.

I read the following, and ask anyone if they want to do it.

What Task Is This?
*This task involves working in a noisy, smoke filled environment with poor lighting.
*It involves repeatedly picking up a heavy solid object from one location, bending over and moving the object to another location.
*Someone is constantly monitoring your performance, and generally making verbal comments on how well you do.
*You may begin by using two hands, but will learn that it is easier to use only one.
*Sometimes the lights flash off and on while you are working. Sometimes the lights shine directly into your eyes.
*It involves using a repetitive wrist motion, and precision.
*It can cause back strain.
*Even as you become proficient, you will not be allowed to move more than one these objects at a time.
*The more proficient you become, the more people you will have observing and critiquing your performance.

-- If you haven't guessed, it's Bowling.
I debrief around how we affect people's perceptions by the way we talk about things.

Like the last post, I have a series of "mind games" that I often use. For example:

A man gets out of jail and pushes his car to a nearby hotel, where he leaves a considerable sum of money. Next, he pushes his car to a nearby house, where he leaves less money. Whats going on here?

I'll save the answer to see if anyone can figure it out David - The DJC Group

OK Deag, here is another one for you. I love to collect these and would welcome people posting others. David - The DJC Group

A man is running toward home. Another man with a mask jumps out at him, blocking his way. The first man turns around and runs in the opposite direction.

What kind of mask was the second man wearing?

First answer is "they are playing Monopoly" and the second is "a catchers mask" - playing baseball.

Hi Workforceireland!
Would you please send me those pictures, too? I'm working on a professional development program featuring a communications exercise. Thanks!

While you're at it, Workforceireland, would you send me a set? I'm always looking for activities that I can use in training. I also have some, including one using helium balloons that focuses on accomplishments within a group. It usually generates a lot of energy and awareness of how much actually gets done when you often feel that you're just "moving paper".

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
