Hello everyone,
I'm currently recruiting for a Training Officer. This is a brand new position for our 100+ employee organization.

I am developing some interview questions to determine and evaluate the applicant's knowledge of training and development.

Could anyone suggest some possible questions that would help me assess the candidates.

This is a position that has to start from scratch. Our training has been very ad-hoc up to this point. I'm thinking that the person will need to know how to conduct Needs Assessments, Evaluate Vendors, Evaluate Training, etc.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

I believe you need to ask him a following questions:
- what strategic teqniqies that he will use to identify employees needs of training?
- What methods he will use to evaluate the employees performance after the training?
- How he/she will calculate the budget of training?
- The social issue is important for training officer to communicate with others such as employees, training instuite..etc?

You might ask the candidates what newspapers, journals, trade magazines they read. What resources would they use for the latest evidence-based practice in your industry?
Ask what their philosophy of education is, and what methodologies they have employed with the greatest success in the past to ensure application occurs in each job role.

I recommend identifying the competencies and creating behavioral questions around the competencies for the position. For example, if flexibility is a competency, you might ask "Give me an example of a time you needed to change directions on a project mid-stream." You can also use behavioral questions to get at some of the items you mentioned. For example, "Tell me about the time that you had the most difficulty building a training curriculum."

If the position requires that the officer teach a class, it would be fair to ask them to give a ten minute instructional presentation.
