I am looking for help in doing a presentation on respect in the workplace for our staff. Has anyone developed such a presentation or know where I can get more information. We are a not-for-prfot organ

What exactly are the issues that you are having with employees? Are there issues with discrimination or simply a lack of respect and business etiquette?

There seems to be a lack of respect and some discrimination, also business etiquette lacks a lot of the time as well. We have someone coming to speak on respect differences to address the discrimination area, I have a few etiquette training ideas but the respectful workplace area seems to be where I'm having the most trouble.

I was curious if you were able to find any training information about "respect in the workforce" ? I have also been looking for training materials that we can use on respect for new hire orientation. I'm only looking for a few slides that cover this topic and was hoping to find something via a webinar or internet training.

Thanks,

Marty Falk

I seem to recall that Coastal HR had a video specifically titled for this.

The Taos institute has a couple of small books on the form of conversation called Appreciative Inquiry. One, entitled the Appreciative Organization may be of help.David Cooperrider is the guru of the form and has many books. etc.

Yes, we teach respect and dignity for others in all of our training programs for staff and faculty.

Frankly, there isn't a one-size fits all program for you. Respect is culturally defined, and the corporate culture figures heavily into this equation.

You can start by asking people to identify work behavior that signals disrespect, then build your program from the perspective of creating a culture that doesn't support or nurture disrespect.

Put together a group of managers, supervisors, and employees as a steering committee to help design and sell the program.

You should consider the following topics: conflict resolution, appropriate feedback, constructive criticism, interpersonal boundaries, and cross-cultural communication.

Best to you!

By the way, appreciative inquiry USED to be called "active listening." It is neither new nor innovative.

Thanks for all the input. I have seen quite a lot of training videos regarding this topic. Unfortunately, most of them are too expensive for us, as we are a non-profit, with avery limited budget. I have had some help from a local organization and they provided an excellent workshop on gender related issues.

Call your local library to see if they have videos. If not, check with your local university library. You may be able to become an "associate" of the university library, which will give you access to the videos the professors use in class.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
