Improving Transfer of Training with Social Media

I am trying to get started on a possible research project and I am looking for some suggestions. My idea is to research (as part of a graduate school project) if the use of blogs, discussion boards and/or other social media "conversational technologies" can improve learner retention and transfer of training. My initial efforts have come us short - which could mean that there is not a lot of research in this area. I would welcome any leads on articles/books about these types of applications as well as hearing about experiences and examples. Thanks!

Have you got a theoretical model that you're following or trying to support with this research? That could be another way to approach it, particularly focusing on Jack Mezirow's transformational learning theory.

There's a lot of support in the expression of that theory for the idea of social learning. There is also a great deal of material supporting the 'no significant difference' phenomenon between classroom- and e-learning delivery, so you'll need to be very focused on what Web 2.0 technologies bring to the table that 'traditional' learning does not.

Have you considered posing your question on some of the social media sites? I would think you might get some good responses--especially from Twitter or LinkedIn.
